Clutch Replacement

Clutch Replacement

The clutch is the part that’s responsibile for connecting your engine to your wheels (via drivetrain/gearbox/trasmission). When you push the clutch pedal down, your engine and wheels are disconnected. When you let the clutch pedal up, the engine and wheels are re-connected. A worn clutch will prevent the engine from transmitting power to the wheels, and in some extreme case the car won’t move at all.

A cars clutch is a consumable, much like brakes. A Clutch is typically made up of a flywheel (far right), a clutch plate (middle) and a pressure plat (far left).

How to test if your clutch is worn

On a flat piece of road, start your car, push your clutch pedal down, put it into 3rd gear. Slowly lift the clutch pedal up, if the car stalls then your clutch is okay, if it starts to pull away slowly then your clutch is worn and needs replacing. If you are unsure, please get in touch and our technicians can advise.

Clutch replacement typically requires disconnecting the gearbox from the engine, which is a slightly more involved process. Most garages charge an arm and a leg for clutch replacement, we guarantee to beat their prices – so get in touch now!
